People I like | Ian Wright

One of my favorite people. Globe Trekker/Lonely Planet travel anchor. Mischievious and fun-loving, madman. Loves being on the top of an icy mountain at dawn. Grins everywhere he goes, and is one of the only Brits that doesn't moan. I can watch his shows over and over, picking up different things about the places he goes to each time. Witty. His antics just make you want to jump up, grab your passport, a change of clothes and a plane ticket and go. I would just love to travel with someone like this, that I could see all the edited out bits. Come to think of it, be proactive and send Lonely Planet (makers of Globe Trekker) an email and make the suggestion.

Ian knows how to handle the bores - he was in Libya this morning, in Tripoli, visiting some Roman ruins with a monosyllabic guide. After asking a few questions and receiving parched replies, Ian lifted his butt over a Roman loo, while the guy was saying that in Roman times number two was a social occasion - Ian lifted his hand to his forehead and muttered that he couldn't go while being watched - the guide started giggling. A classic moment.
